Though this stone is popularly called White Buffalo turquoise in the trade, this gem is of the mineral dolomite. Discovered and mined in Tonopah, NV, it has a more distinctive division of colors than similarly colored howlite or magnesite, and is significantly more rare and sought-after.

The name White Buffalo comes from Native American legends of a sacred, mythical creature. This unique, mysterious gem is a symbol of purity, connection to the metaphysical world, and an attractor of luck and happiness.
